British Airways has said that it is striving to promote good health onboard its flights, despite there being no official recognition of the link between flying and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
A spokesperson for the airline explained that awareness of inflight health is on the increase among airlines, resulting in more being done to help passengers stay well while in the air, such as encouraging exercise and providing extra water.
"We have a big section called 'Well Being in the Air' and that's heavily promoted on the online entertainment systems, in the announcements by the cabin crew; we have exercise charts on the onboard magazine," he commented.
He added that
British Airways also offers advice on how to manage jetlag and minimise it by forming the correct sleeping patterns while in the air.
The comments coincide with the International Air Transport Association's annual Cabin Health Conference in Geneva this week, which is examining issues such as cleanliness and disease, as well as DVT.
