Travellers 'would pay more to go green'
Over a third of UK holidaymakers would shell out more to make sure they travel in an environmentally-friendly manner, according to new research.
In the survey by email research firm emedia, 76 per cent more people also said they will be taking their impact on the environment into account this year when booking holidays compared with last year.
A third of travellers would opt for carbon offsetting in order to minimise their carbon footprint, with 25 per cent prepared to pay a green tax on their fares.
"With more people prepared to pay extra than those prepared to change their behaviour, carbon offsets clearly have an important role in engaging the many rather than the few," commented Michael Buick, communication manager at carbon offsetting provider Climate Care.
A recent survey by market intelligence solutions provider Global Market Insite found that nearly half of Britons believe the government should introduce a carbon tax on all domestic and international flights.
