British Airways has announced that its long-haul fuel surcharge will increase from Wednesday June 13th because of recent oil price increases.
From this date, long-haul flights lasting less than nine hours will carry a charge of £38 (£76 for a return flight), while longer flights will have a charge of £43 (£86 return).
British Airways commercial director Robert Boyle said that the airline had "little choice" but to increase the surcharge.
"Fuel continues to be our second largest cost and we expect our fuel bill this year to be more than £2 billion. The price of oil continues to be extremely volatile," he commented.
Last month, the carrier announced plans to replace its fleet of airport vehicles at
Heathrow Airport with more environmentally-friendly ones to help reduce carbon emissions and improve flight punctuality.
The £25 million scheme is part of the airline's move to the new Terminal 5, which is due to take place in March next year.
