Stay calm over holiday troubles, Brits advised

Holidaymakers who find that their dream break does not quite match up to expectations should make sure they relay complaints in the appropriate manner, according to experts.

Research from Halifax Travel Insurance has shown that three-quarters of holiday representatives have been shouted at by Britons upset over the quality of their break.

One-third of respondents also reported being subjected to threats of physical harm, prompting the firm to advise travellers to keep their cool to make sure their problem gets sorted out as quickly as possible.

"Holidays should be an enjoyable experience, but taking matters into your own hands and venting the frustration on a holiday rep will only create more stress for all concerned and could potentially land you in trouble with the local authorities," commented Paul Birkhead, underwriting manager for Halifax Travel Insurance.

The research also found that the main cause for complaint among irate holidaymakers is quality of accommodation, followed by noise pollution, building work issues and food quality.

According to the Telegraph, it might be an idea to gather evidence such as photographs and video clips in the event that something goes wrong and a complaint needs to be made.
