Air France has announced that it will launch new flights from
Birmingham to
Lyon later this year.
The twice-daily service will begin on September 3rd and will be operated by Britair using CRJ 50-seater aircraft. The launch adds to Air France's current daily flights from Birmingham to
Paris Charles de Gaulle.
Birmingham City Council leader Mike Whitby said that the new route will help to increase trade between the two "sister cities", as well as attracting more French holidaymakers to the city.
Peter Vella of Birmingham International Airport added: "Lyon is a beautiful city with great sights, fantastic gastro food, vineyards to visit and plenty of history and culture, plus its close proximity to the Alps means travellers can incorporate skiing into their break too."
Last month,
bmi officially launched its new daily non-stop service between
Manchester Airport and Lyon using Embraer jet aircraft.
