British Airways is set to give travellers to
Bulgaria a boost by launching an extra weekly flight to
Sofia from
Heathrow Airport.
Speaking at a news conference, the airline's commercial manager for Bulgaria, Emil Delibashev, said that the extra service is needed due to rising demand.
The carrier already flies daily between the two destinations and the new flight will be operated every Thursday from this August.
Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria, which saw 7.5 million visits over the course of 2006. The city is primarily attractive to tourists for its rich historical heritage and attractions, as it has a past dating back to the eighth century BC.
Some of its most popular annual events include the Bulgarian Fanta Salsa Festival and the Sofia Book Fair.
Other global airlines that operate flights to Sofia include
Alitalia,
Austrian Airlines,
Lufthansa,
Czech Airlines and
Air France.
