Proposals to establish a new air link between
Ireland and
Canada are to be discussed by officials over the next few days.
The plans involve the launch of flights from
Shannon in western Ireland to
Halifax in Nova Scotia and will be mulled over by the province's tourism minister and councillor Flan Garvey, the mayor of Clare.
It is hoped that the discussions will lead to a proposal being made to a major transatlantic airline to operate the service.
"Air Canada currently flies from Halifax to London but it is my intention to push for a similar service directly into Ireland," commented minister Len Goucher.
Presently,
Air Canada also flies from Shannon Airport to
Toronto during the summer months.
It also operates services to various hubs around the country from locations across the globe, including
Calgary,
Edmonton,
Montreal,
Winnipeg, Williams Lake and
Vancouver.
