Alicante is one of Spain's most popular holiday destinations and comes alive in the summer through numerous festivals and events.
If you're heading to the region in early July, check out the bull run on the harbourfront at Denia. This takes place every year to mark the Day of the Sacred Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
As well as the main daily bull run itself, which takes place right up to the water's edge, visitors to
Alicante will be able to see dazzling fireworks displays, parades, processions and much more.
For those travelling to
Spain in August, the mammoth summer festival is a must. A host of musical, theatrical, dance and other arts performances are held every year at Paseo del Puerto, making for a great few weeks of lazing in the sun while taking in plenty of local culture.
Of course, if all else fails, it's always tempting to simply head to one of Alicante's bright sandy beaches and spend the holiday splashing about in clear blue waters and perfecting that summer tan.

Alicante Municipal Tourism Board website.
