British Airways has announced that its services to
Dallas Fort Worth and
Houston will fly from
Heathrow Airport instead of
Gatwick Airport from next year.
The move is designed to coincide with the enforcement of the open skies pact between
Europe and the
USA and will take place on March 30th 2008.
According to the airline, the non-stop flights will operate daily to Dallas Fort Worth and twice a day to Houston.
Robert Boyle, commercial director for
British Airways, said that the new arrangements will fit with the carrier's move to the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow next year.
"While these routes have been well served from Gatwick, moving to Heathrow makes it easier for our customers to transfer on to our global network via our new home at Terminal 5," he commented.
John Lampl of British Airways also said that if demand for the flights proves particularly high, a shift to Boeing 747 aircraft from the current 777 planes may be considered.
