Travellers are still failing to adhere to
airport rules on carrying liquids, it has been claimed.
According to consumer group Which?, about five tonnes of liquids are estimated to be confiscated from passengers at major British airports every day.
Soft drinks, hair gel and toothpaste were found to be among the most common items taken away from travellers at the UK's biggest hubs.
"It's a huge problem. The last thing you want to do is take £40 worth of perfume off a passenger who has just bought it," commented Zoe Ensor, a spokeswoman for
Manchester Airport.
The current regulations regarding the carriage of liquids state that all such items must be placed in hold baggage wherever possible.
Liquids, gels and aerosols can only be carried in individual 100ml containers and should fit into a transparent, re-sealable bag measuring a maximum of 20cm by 20cm.
