Next month sees one of the world's biggest food fights take place in
Spain.
Holidaymakers heading to the country should make sure they do not miss the La Tomatina festival in Bunol,
Valencia on August 29th.
This huge event sees thousands of revellers head to the town - with many
flying to Spain just to do so - to experience the somewhat messy delights of hurling large quantities of tomatoes at each other.
The day begins with a free breakfast of pastries and rolls in Bunol's town square at 09:00 local time, followed by a traditional contest where contestants attempt to retrieve a leg of ham from the top of a soap-covered pole.
Festival-goers are then drenched with water poured from the balconies around the square, before the tomato fight officially begins at 11:00.
A truck filled with tomatoes appears in the square, with those on it usually being the first to throw the squashy red fruit. It then relieves itself of the cargo, which the crowds are more than happy to make use of.
Tomatoes are delivered throughout the fight by more trucks, before the battle finishes with a thorough hosing down of all the participants.
