More than half a million travellers used
Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA) last month, marking a record start to the summer for the hub.
According to new figures released by the airport, the number of holidaymakers flying from Liverpool in June rose by 12.3 per cent to 507,781 compared with the same month last year.
Officials at the hub said this could be attributed to the growing number of destinations that are now served from the site, which are attracting travellers from around the country.
"No doubt the wet weather will have played a part in the record number of passengers getting away to sunnier climes this June, but with the school holidays still to come, the forecast for further passenger growth at JLA is certainly a lot brighter than the weather," commented Robin Tudor, general manager of corporate and community affairs for
Liverpool Airport.
The airport offers flights to destinations such as
Antwerp,
Bourgas,
Brussels and
Malta, among others.
