Florence voted best city in the world

Florence voted best city in the world
Florence in Italy has received the title of World's Best City as a result of a poll held by Travel + Leisure (T+L) magazine.

The publication's World's Best Awards 2007 survey placed Buenos Aires and Bangkok in second and third place respectively for the title.

According to the voting, the Oberoi Udaivilas hotel in Udaipur, India is the best in the world, while Bali is the most favoured island globally.

In addition, Virgin Gorda won back its title of Best Island in the Caribbean, Bermuda and the Bahamas after last receiving the award six years ago.

Airlines were also honoured in the poll, with Singapore Airlines scooping the award for the best worldwide carrier.

"This year's results underline T+L readers' ever-increasing embrace of global travel in their search for distinctive and authentic experiences," commented Nancy Novogrod, editor-in-chief of T+L.

Florence's attractions include its stunning Renaissance architecture, upmarket shopping facilities and Tuscan restaurants.
