The popularity of economy class air seats is still high despite the introduction of other alternatives, according to one expert.
Anna Knowles, spokesperson for
Virgin Atlantic, said that the airline will continue to invest in
economy class services even after spending millions on revamping its premium economy cabin last year.
However, she noted that the market for its premium economy seats is expanding and that a wide variety of travellers are using the service.
"Lots of different passengers use the service - from passengers on leisure looking for more space, to small and medium-sized companies for their staff travelling on business," Ms Knowles commented.
She added: "Premium economy is a hugely growing market - it grew by over 50 per cent between 2000 and 2005."
The
Virgin Atlantic premium economy cabin - which is only available on
long-haul routes - offers a seat pitch of 38 inches, priority check-in and luggage handling, and a separate meal menu to its customers.
Virgin Atlantic operates long-haul flights to
North America,
the Caribbean,
Africa, the
Middle East, Asia and
Australia.
