British Airways and
Air China have rolled out an interline electronic ticketing (IET) scheme to allow passengers to buy a single e-ticket for journeys involving both carriers.
According to the airlines, the scheme will help to reduce the cost of these journeys when compared with buying separate tickets for each leg of the trip.
The use of
e-ticketing also means that tickets cannot be lost and the boarding process is quicker, they claimed.
"We are delighted to develop IET with British Airways," commented Zhang Lan, senior vice president of Air China.
She added: "The IET cooperation will be extended to even more airlines in the near future."
Currently, Air China holds IET agreements with carriers such as
United Airlines,
Singapore Airlines,
Northwest Airlines and
Cathay Pacific. It intends to form further deals with more airlines by the end of the year.
Last year,
British Airways announced that passengers who check in online will be able to choose their seat from 24 hours before flight departure.
