Travellers looking to get the best from their holiday money this summer should take the time to shop around rather than getting their cash at the last minute, according to one expert.
Lisa Taylor of money search engine Moneyfacts.co.uk has warned that getting currency at the airport just before the flight departs can lead to a premium being added to the overall cost, meaning that Britons should look around for the best deal well before jetting off.
She advised holidaymakers to focus on ensuring they get the best exchange rate as many providers are now offering commission-free deals.
"This year travellers will find an abundance of commission-free currency deals, with only a handful of branch and telephone services now charging an upfront commission fee," Ms Taylor commented.
She added: "This is great news, as travellers will avoid paying these fees, which previously ranged between two and three per cent of the order."
Britons heading to the
USA may find that they can get more for their sterling at the moment, as the pound is currently above average in terms of its strength against the dollar.
