The top ten best airport
lounges in the world include no fewer than three UK-based facilities, it has been claimed.
Undertaking research for the Telegraph, travel writer Jeffrey Mills visited some of the world's most luxurious gate-side lounges and rated their offerings.
He claimed that the First Class Concorde Room lounge at
Heathrow Airport for first-class
British Airways passengers, the
Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at the same hub and the British Airways Terraces at
Gatwick Airport offer world-class services for both leisure and business travellers.
These include hairdressing facilities, luxurious showers, spa services such as massages and top-of-the-range web and business offerings, among others.
Mr Mills also sang the praises of lounges run by
Lufthansa,
Emirates and
Cathay Pacific at hubs in
Frankfurt,
Dubai and
Hong Kong respectively.
The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at Heathrow was recently voted the best business class lounge in the world in the 2007 World Airline Awards run by Skytrax.
