The number of Brits visiting the twin islands of
Antigua and
Barbuda soared by 20 per cent to reach more than 6,400 in June, according to new figures.
Statistics from the Antigua and Barbuda Tourist Office reveal that this follows a ten per cent increase in May and an average eight per cent rise in March and April - which is when the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 occurred.
Carol Hay, UK and Europe tourism director for the tourist office, said that the rise in June could be attributed to the focus on
the Caribbean that the cricket event brought.
"We look forward to seeing further rises in the year as a result of our continued efforts and the current campaigns we have running promoting the islands to the family and the wedding and honeymoon markets," she added.
Antigua is a popular destination for couples on their honeymoon and boasts attractions such as Indian Town's underground caves and the annual Sailing Week festival at English Harbour.
