Air Jamaica cancelled all of its flights between
Jamaica and
London, the
USA and
Toronto yesterday after a hurricane hit the east Caribbean.
Flights cancelled today (August 20th) include certain services operating between
Kingston and
Montego Bay in Jamaica and
New York,
Orlando,
Miami,
Grand Cayman, Toronto, and
Fort Lauderdale.
Air Jamaica has advised UK passengers that flight number JM002 between London and Montego Bay is set to depart today at 15:15 BST, dependent on the reopening of airports in Jamaica.
Passengers with tickets to or from
Barbados,
Bonaire, Grand Cayman,
Grenada, Kingston, Montego Bay,
Nassau and
St Lucia which were issued on or before August 16th for the period between August 17th and 24th have been told that they may make changes to their itinerary without penalty, as long as certain conditions are followed.
Those with tickets for flights originating in the UK will be allowed a full refund without charges, the airline added.
Hurricane Dean has already resulted in the deaths of at least eight people in the Caribbean. Officials in the Cayman Islands have evacuated visitors to the region and set a curfew ahead of potential incidents today.
There have been reports of tourists rushing to
Caribbean airports to get special flights home as a result of the severe weather.
