Flights between
Stansted Airport and
Belfast operated by
Air Berlin are set to be scrapped by the airline, it has been reported.
According to the BBC, possible reasons for the removal of the flights, which will take place on October 29th, include costs and higher security responsibilities.
The return Stansted-Belfast service currently operates twice a day during the week, with additional flights at the weekend.
"While we are disappointed to lose the daily service to Stansted with Air Berlin, George Best Belfast City Airport still operates services to London Gatwick and Heathrow, as well as a growing portfolio of other destinations," a spokesman for George Best Belfast City Airport commented.
The carrier announced earlier this month that passenger traffic on its flights rose by 15.5 per cent during July to reach a total of 2.3 million travellers.
It also saw significant growth in its operations at
Stuttgart,
Nuremberg and
Berlin-Tegel airports in
Germany last month.
