The number of passengers that used
London City Airport in August increased by 31 per cent compared with the same month last year, new figures have revealed.
Statistics from the hub show that 241,976 travellers passed through the
airport last month, following on from July's record 26 per cent rise in passengers.
The airport said that it expects traffic to continue to increase over the next few years, a prediction reflected in its recent application for expansion to accommodate the extra passengers.
"With an ever increasing number of leading financial institutions locating their headquarters on the east side of London, the airport, only three miles from Canary Wharf, is ideally located to serve the growing business community," commented Richard Gooding, chief executive of London City Airport.
Last week,
Lufthansa announced that it is to launch a new service to
Berlin from London City Airport in January 2008.
