Brits 'more conscious' of flight security

Air passengers' understanding of air travel security has changed significantly in recent years, according to one expert.

Sophie Greenyer of British Airways said that travellers are now much more aware of what is going on around them due to security issues coming to the forefront in the recent past.

She added that air stewards have been given extra training to help reassure holidaymakers who may feel anxious about their safety when onboard a flight as a result.

"Passengers' understanding of security has changed an awful lot … When a passenger gets on a flight they are much more conscious of what other passengers are doing … as passengers are much more aware of security as an issue now," Ms Greenyer commented.

A survey conducted by IT services firm Steria last year found that nine in ten passengers found the extra security put in place at UK airports following the failed bombing of Heathrow Airport reassuring.
