A strike by maintenance staff at
Heathrow and
Gatwick airports scheduled for tomorrow (September 7th) has been called off.
According to the BBC, employees of services firm Emcor who are also members of the GMB union decided to put off the strike until further talks had been held with senior members of management.
The strike would not have materially affected passenger travel, Emcor said in a statement earlier this week, as relatively few workers would have gone on strike and it had plans in place to keep service operations running at both
airports.
"Emcor's staff do not have business critical involvement with flight operations; service delivery relates specifically to the comfort of passengers in the lounges, offices, hangars and other places of work," the company stated.
Crisis talks had taken place last week in an attempt to avert the strike early, with GMB officials warning that further strike dates may be set.
