Book early to beat holiday blues, says expert
Britons returning from their summer getaways should think about booking their next break early in order to stave off the post-holiday blues, according to one expert.
Celebrity psychologist Donna Dawson said that planning well ahead can save money and give travellers something to look forward to so they do not feel too miserable at the prospect of going back to work.
The comments follow a study by Birmingham Airport that found two-thirds of holidaymakers feel depressed after returning from a break, with nearly one in 30 respondents admitting to taking the drastic measure of leaving their jobs upon arrival in the UK.
"By booking something you can visualise something positive to look forward to," Ms Dawson explained.
"We inevitably feel that post-holiday slump - the good times are over, we have to go back to work and we have to be careful with money - but we need to focus on the ability to do that again."
She went on to add that holidaymakers who choose to book a flight from their local airport rather than one of the bigger, busier hubs could also save themselves a significant amount of stress.
The Birmingham Airport survey also found that the top three things Britons most missed from their holidays were the feeling of being relaxed, the weather and the beaches.
