Over 900,000 air passengers passed through
Edinburgh Airport in July, marking a record for the hub, it has been announced.
Statistics from BAA Scotland also suggest that 8.82 million travellers used the airport in the 12 months leading up to July, with popular destinations during the month including
Madrid,
Zurich and
Stockholm.
David Johnston, managing director of Edinburgh Airport, noted that the
hub has seen 16 new services start so far this year and that 12 more new flights will launch by the end of December.
"We know that passengers want to be able to fly direct from Scotland's capital and it's great to see they are making the most of the choice and variety of destinations on offer," he added.
Airlines that fly from the hub include
bmi,
British Airways,
Continental Airlines,
Lufthansa and
SAS, among others, serving destinations as diverse as
Copenhagen,
Chambery,
New York and
Frankfurt.
