A new survey has made some interesting discoveries about how young people travel in the present day.
Conducted by the World Youth Student and Educational (WYSE) Travel Confederation, the study found that young people are taking more
trips now than they did five years ago, with a greater number of journeys being made to countries outside of their home regions.
Spending on these trips has also risen significantly since 2002, with under-26s splashing out more on international travel as a proportion of their income than any other age group.
Over 80 per cent of respondents said they now conduct travel-related research on the
internet, with the number of young travellers making online bookings soaring to four times the level seen in 2002.
"The main benefit gained from travel continues to be a thirst for more travel. Once young people start travelling, they find it difficult to stop," the WYSE Travel Confederation said in its report.
Earlier this year, research by the Year Out Group found that the most popular gap year destinations for students and other travellers in 2007 included
India,
Peru,
Tanzania and
China.
