The number of travellers passing through a BAA-owned
airport last month rose by 3.5 per cent compared with October last year, new figures have revealed.
About 13.2 million passengers used a BAA hub in October 2007, with growth in North Atlantic, European and other
long-haul traffic contributing to the boom, the airport operator said.
Edinburgh and
Aberdeen airports saw some of the biggest increases in passengers last month, recording rises of five per cent and 6.6 per cent respectively. Meanwhile,
Heathrow (3.8 per cent) and
Gatwick (4.9 per cent) also enjoyed significant traffic growth.
This upturn in air travel by UK holidaymakers was also highlighted by
British Airways earlier this week.
The airline said that passenger traffic measured in revenue passenger kilometres increased by 2.2 per cent last month, with
premium traffic rising by a massive 10.4 per cent during the month of October.
