The American cities of
Los Angeles and
New York are among the most popular destinations for British holidaymakers heading out of the UK during the festive period, it has been suggested.
A spokesperson for
Heathrow Airport made clear that the two destinations are major draws for British travellers and particularly around Christmas time, when shopping is at the forefront of many people's minds.
It is thought that the world-renowned shopping strips, Rodeo Drive in
Los Angeles and Fifth Avenue in
New York, could be part of the reason why the two American tourist hubs are among the favourite places to visit for British holidaymakers.
"BAA does not track passenger bookings - we track scheduled flights," explained a Heathrow representative.
"However, it is fair to say that New York and Los Angeles remain one of the top destinations for travel from Heathrow over the Christmas period."
Those taking a flight to the US may wish to know that sterling is currently at its strongest position against the dollar since the early 1980s.
