Britons are becoming increasingly
adventurous in their choice of holiday destination, according to one expert.
Holidaymakers are now looking for "experiences" that go beyond traditional getaways, Claire Lilley of Holiday Which? remarked.
She noted that more people are taking up to four holidays every year - and as a result they want to do more than get a tan.
"They're looking for things like bungee jumping and skydiving and canoeing and horse riding," Ms Lilley commented.
Despite this, she said that traditionally popular destinations such as
France and
Spain will continue to prove attractive to holidaymakers this year, as will up and coming regions such as
Bulgaria and
Turkey.
The comments follow a report from the Association of British Travel Agents suggesting that advance bookings for 2008 holidays in
Portugal and Turkey have seen a significant increase, while locations such as
China,
Singapore and
Australia will benefit from higher visitor numbers as a result of various sporting events to be held this year.
