Travellers looking to make their holidays as
eco-friendly as possible have been offered a number of tips on how to do so.
The advice, from David Weston of charity The Travel Foundation, suggests that holidaymakers remember to switch off all air conditioning and heating before leaving their hotel in order to reduce power consumption.
Britons might also want to consider removing all packaging from goods before leaving for the airport, which could also prove beneficial for the environment as many resorts do not offer recycling facilities, according to Mr Weston. This could also save space in luggage.
"Tips like this are small within themselves, but if everybody does them it adds up enormously with helping to reduce wastage and the carbon footprint of tourism in general," he remarked.
According to research by the Co-operative Bank, 25 per cent more money was spent on eco-friendly holidays and attractions last year by British travellers than in 2006.
