British Airways is currently considering expanding its
long-haul operations from
Gatwick Airport, according to reports.
Chief executive Willie Walsh told Bloomberg that the airline perceives the
London airport as having numerous "opportunities" for expansion.
The airline currently operates or will operate in the future
flights to Barbados,
Orlando,
Houston,
St Lucia,
Grenada and
Bermuda - among other destinations - from Gatwick.
"We're looking at how we can retain as many slots as possible," Mr Walsh commented.
Last November, the carrier announced plans to launch a number of new short-haul flights from Gatwick. These included services to
Alicante,
Faro,
Gibraltar,
Ibiza,
Malaga,
Palma and
Tunis, which will begin on March 30th.
British Airways also operates a
lounge at Gatwick's North Terminal, which was designed to complement the interior of the airline's first class cabin as created by British designer Kelly Hoppen.
