Travellers connecting with flights at the North Terminal at
Gatwick Airport can now take more than one piece of hand luggage.
The airport said that the new rules mean that flyers going through both the North and South terminals can now travel with multiple pieces of hand baggage as a result of rules introduced on January 7th.
However, passengers still need to ensure they only carry one piece of hand luggage on all other flights - a rule that is set to be relaxed "in the near future" following the completion of construction work at the
hub.
According to the Department for Transport, all British airports are required to relax the one-bag rule by May 31st 2008.
There are currently differences between airlines and airports as to the exact extent of this relaxation at present, with passengers urged to check the rules with the relevant carrier or airport before departure.
