Birmingham Airport has announced that February saw it beat all previous records for the month in terms of passenger numbers.
According to the central England hub, some 635,052 passengers made use of Birmingham Airport in February 2008, a 9.2 per cent rise on the same period in 2007.
Scheduled traffic made up more than 83 per cent of the total (527,799 people), with 107,253 passengers heading to Birmingham Airport for charter flights to destinations such as
Bulgaria,
Finland and
Egypt.
"It was a record-breaking February for the airport, which is great news," said Joe Kelly, acting managing director of Birmingham Airport.
Passenger growth on non-EU routes stood at 10.3 per cent, while those flying within the member states grew by 15.4 per cent.
Bratislava,
Murcia and
Faro were among the destinations that witnessed the highest increase, according to the airport.
Birmingham Airport is the country's sixth largest, according to its website, with more than 50 airlines operating from it.
