New figures have revealed that the number of travellers using UK airports increased by 2.4 per cent last year.
Some 241 million passengers used British airports in 2007, while landings and take-offs also rose by 1.8 per cent, the statistics released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) today (March 13th) showed.
London City Airport saw the highest rate of growth in terms of air transport movements, while Gatwick experienced the biggest increase in passengers. Meanwhile, the use of
regional airports rose by 2.9 per cent, handling 101 million passengers in 2007.
Last year, the organisation published figures suggesting that regional airport use grew by four per cent in 2006.
The CAA also indicated in today's report that
Poland was the most popular destination for those flying last year, followed by
Italy and
Spain, with
Europe being the continent that was most flown to in 2007.
