An estimated two million Britons are set to leave the UK to take advantage of the long Easter weekend.
This is according to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), which also said that
Spain will be the most popular overseas destination for those exiting the country this weekend.
Other locations predicted to attract British travellers over Easter included
Egypt,
Morocco and
Florida, while a number of holidaymakers look set to make the most of the what is left of the ski season by
flying to France,
Austria and
Canada.
"The early Easter has given our customers the extra option of heading to the slopes as well as topping up their tans and the extended peak period has also seen a flattening out of prices, which has increased the number of holiday bargains for this time of year," commented Justin Fleming, president of the ABTA.
Travellers intending to make use of
rail routes have been warned that they may experience disruption this weekend, however, with engineering work on some railways predicted to make certain journeys longer.
