Flights from
Glasgow Airport to destinations in
Pakistan are set to be resumed by one carrier this week.
Pakistan International Airlines will start up weekly services to Lahore and Faisalabad on April 2nd, with
flights to Lahore taking place on Sundays and those to Faisalabad running on Wednesdays.
The airline suspended flights from the Scottish city last summer for technical reasons after beginning service in November 2005.
Gordon Dewar, managing director of Glasgow Airport, remarked that
long-haul flights from
Glasgow traditionally travel to destinations in
North America.
"However, with the emergence of flights to the Gulf, north Africa and Pakistan, we are now seeing a shift in travel patterns, with eastbound long-haul flights increasingly growing in popularity," he commented.
In terms of tourist attractions, Lahore is home to the world's biggest historical mosque and numerous tombs and forts, while Faisalabad is the third biggest city in Pakistan and hosts a number of colonial-era structures, most notably the Faisalabad Clock Tower.
