Looking for a unique
city break? Why not head to
Washington and combine the US capital's historic attractions with a Caribbean-themed festival?
The DC Caribbean Carnival makes its way to Washington on June 28th and 29th, attracting some 300,000 people every year.
Visitors to the city on the first day of the carnival can expect to see a massive parade consisting of dozens of bands and masquerade groups along Georgia Avenue, as well as thousands of individual participants.
Both days of the event bring all-day festivities in Banneker Park, with live music, an arts market and plenty of traditional Caribbean food on offer to festival-goers.
Once the carnival is over, you could check out year-round
Washington attractions such as the Smithsonian museums, the Luray Caverns or the National Gallery of Art, or even take a day trip to nearby Baltimore.

DC Caribbean Carnival website.
