A growing number of British holidaymakers are choosing to combine breaks in
Singapore with a trip to the nearby tropical island of Bintan, according to new statistics.
The Singapore Tourism Board has said that UK visitor arrivals at both destinations have risen over the last three years, indicating that this may be due to travellers wishing to combine the
city experience of
Singapore with Bintan's more relaxed atmosphere.
Bintan, an Indonesian island, is located less than an hour away from Singapore by catamaran and features white sand beaches and extensive water sports and golfing facilities.
"Together, Singapore and Bintan offer an even more appealing destination choice - the glitz and glamour of a major metropolis with tropical island paradise offerings of Bintan," commented Asad Shiraz, marketing director at Bintan Resorts.
Bintan has about 105km of coastline and a 200,000-strong population, with a tropical climate boasting average temperatures of about 26 degrees C.
