Some of the world's biggest aviation organisations have signed a declaration committing them to combating the problem of climate change.
British Airways was among the signatories of the agreement at the Aviation and Environment Summit in Geneva this week, along with aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing.
While the declaration does not commit the firms involved to meeting set targets, it calls on the aviation industry to do more to research
eco-friendly technologies.
Speaking at the summit, British Airways chief executive Willie Walsh said he believed carbon trading was the way forward for the airline sector.
"The goal must be to reduce global emissions at the least cost to the global economy. I believe carbon trading can achieve this," he said, according to Reuters.
A number of organisations have already taken steps towards becoming more environmentally-friendly, with
Virgin Atlantic completing the first biofuel-powered flight earlier this year.
