Travellers who book their holidays
online mainly do so out of convenience, according to one expert.
The rise of online reservations means that more people can now arrange their holidays from the comfort of their desks, Kate Shipp of Which? Holiday remarked.
Furthermore, consumers are able to benefit from choosing from a wide variety of options, including price, something that is not always the case at standard travel agents, she said.
"You obviously have choice in a travel agent but you will be restricted perhaps in terms of the holidays on offer," Ms Shipp commented.
"And also, it's about being able to tailor the holiday to suit your needs."
More than six in ten British households had access to the internet last year, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.
A recent poll by Ciao Surveys found that 58 per cent of Britons prefer to book their holidays online.
