An annual travel insurance policy may be the best option for people who like to book flights at the last minute, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA).
The group's press officer, Sean Tipton, asserted that an annual policy may be ideal for those who prefer spur-of-the-moment getaways, as it guarantees that these trips are covered in the event anything goes amiss.
"Part of the problem is that, because flights are so cheap and people do things in the spur of the moment, people forget or don't bother to take out insurance, particularly if they are going on short trips," he said.
He added that the most sensible way around this is to take out an annual policy, which he explained may be particularly beneficial to those who take more than two trips per year.
Last summer, Alliance & Leicester reported that some 13 per cent of people over the age of 55 took five or more holidays per year.
