Demand for Russian rubles has trebled as a result of the high numbers of football fans expected to descend upon
Moscow for this week's Champions League final.
This is according to Anthony Hudson of Travelex.co.uk, who said that the match between Chelsea and Manchester United on May 21st has prompted a surge in demand for the Russian currency in the last few days.
"Whilst big sporting events abroad usually see a spike in demand for the local foreign currency, we've seen travellers making larger transactions," he remarked.
"This may suggest that travellers are combining the event with a few days of holiday either side."
According to Travelex.co.uk, a pint of beer costs between £1.36 and £2.27 in
Moscow, with a taxi from the airport to the centre of the city costing about £35 and a tour of the metropolis weighing in at £13.63.
Some of Moscow's attractions include the Kremlin and St Basil's Cathedral in the Red Square, as well as the Hermitage Gardens and the State History Museum.
