Holidaymakers are most irritated by others reserving sun loungers with their towels, according to a new survey.
A study conducted by Professor Kevin Nield of Sheffield Hallam University in
Rhodes in
Greece found that this holiday habit was the most annoying for the majority of the 2,000 respondents polled.
He noted that this complaint did not seem to be exclusively made by Britons, with travellers from a variety of countries expressing their resentment of this common holiday behaviour.
"We all think it's a joke - but it's not. It's a real annoyance to holidaymakers of all nationalities - British, German, French and Italian alike," Professor Nield said.
The survey also revealed a love of Rhodes on the part of visitors to the island, with 75 per cent rating the destination's ancient Greek attractions, culture and natural beauty highly.
Rhodes is located between Greece and
Cyprus, some 18 kilometres to the west of Turkey. It was once home to one of the
Seven Wonders of the World, the Colossus of Rhodes.
