Travellers are being urged to head to
Stavanger in
Norway and enjoy the celebrations as the area lives up to its status as European Capital of Culture.
Tourism officials in the region have said that there are set to be more than 1,000 events taking place in Stavanger over the course of 2008 to mark the awarding of the title.
Key features of the celebrations will be nature and culture, as well as the theme of landscape.
A unique arts initiative called On the Edge will commission artists and architects from around the world to create art pieces for display at Stavanger's numerous lighthouses.
Other events will include those relating to theatre, dance, photography, film, food festivals and more.
Stavanger is located in western Norway and is the fourth largest city in the country. It is accessible from Stavanger Airport, which is situated about 14 kilometres from the centre of the city.
