The average
summer holiday suitcase has contents worth almost £1,572, new research has revealed.
According to the study by Holiday Inn, this is equivalent to nearly double the cost of the getaway itself.
About £143 worth of clothes is never worn by the holidaymaker, despite packing over £600 worth of garments on average, the hotel chain said.
Popular items packed in suitcases were found to include digital cameras, electric shavers, straighteners, jewellery and snacks.
However, more than three-quarters of those surveyed said they never used everything that they had packed.
"Because people love their weekend escapes, they want to make sure they've got absolutely everything they need - and maybe quite a few things they don't," remarked Holiday Inn spokesman Chris Hale.
According to Confused.com, travellers should consider packing phone chargers and travel adapters in their hand luggage rather than in their suitcases in case they need to get hold of someone in an emergency.
