Holidaying Brits 'can't stop spending'
Britons who head overseas on a holiday spend significantly more money than they can afford, new research has suggested.
About one in three holidaymakers are likely to use up leftover currency by buying things they do not need when abroad, while 83 per cent fail to come up with a budget before jetting off, the survey by American Express revealed.
Furthermore, a fifth of travellers blow their budgets by purchasing duty-free goods at the airport, with nearly half admitting that they would forget about spending little and saving more if they were to see something they desired while on holiday.
"The last thing people want to do when they go on holiday is worry about money and this summer's trend should be about being savvy with your money," remarked Kirstie Bayley of American Express.
Sainsbury's Travel Money recently warned that leaving it until the last minute to change sterling for foreign currency could result in holidaymakers shelling out more on commission and higher exchange rates than if they got their cash well in advance.
