Russian airline KD avia is to launch new flights to Yekaterinburg from Gatwick Airport via
Kaliningrad, it has been announced.
The service will launch on October 26th and comes shortly after the carrier announced the purchase of 25 new aircraft.
KD avia first launched its UK flights in June last year and now offers connections to 12 Russian locations, including
Moscow and
St Petersburg.
Loreta Durell, UK sales manager for KD avia, remarked that Yekaterinburg is a major destination in terms of museums, art galleries and theatres.
"However, it is perhaps most famous as the place where the family of Nicholas II were executed in 1918. It is also Russia's fifth largest city and has many business links to the UK," she added.
Yekaterinburg is home to nearly 1.3 million people and was originally founded in the early part of the 18th century.
