Middle Eastern airline
Emirates is set to build a new lounge facility at
Birmingham Airport, reports suggest.
The carrier will invest in the region of £1.5 million in the
lounge, which will cater for those taking
business class flights with Emirates, according to the Birmingham Post.
Emirates currently services about 18,000 passengers a month at the airport, the newspaper states, with 1,000 of these travelling to
China.
The airline has also confirmed the addition of
Guangzhou to its network of flights from
Dubai, providing Birmingham flyers with a link to the Chinese city via the emirate.
Birmingham city council leader Mike Whitby said he hoped the addition of Guangzhou would help the airport win its bid to extend its main runway.
Emirates recently confirmed that it has rolled out 100 per cent
e-ticketing capabilities across its network of destinations that are bookable online and recently signed its 100th interline e-ticketing agreement.
