Brits 'opting for unusual honeymoons'
A growing number of honeymooners are choosing to go on less traditional postnuptial breaks, new research has suggested.
The survey of more than 2,000 Brits revealed that many are increasingly seeing the appeal of non-beach holidays when choosing a honeymoon.
Almost a third of those polled said they stayed in the UK instead of going away on the traditional two-week beach break in a foreign country, while 15 per cent plumped for a city adventure and nine per cent chose to take in an activity holiday.
The most popular long-haul destinations were found to include the USA and the Caribbean, while those venturing closer to home opted for locations such as Spain and France.
"British honeymooners are breaking away from tradition and opting to take more adventurous breaks, swapping beachside meals for two for action exploits, cruises and safari trips," commented Ash Makkar of Teletext Holidays, which conducted the research.
According to the Honeymooner's Review Guide, those looking for the ultimate romantic break might find the likes of Costa Rica, Thailand and Jamaica to be ideal.
