A growing number of Britons place culture at the top of their wishlists when it comes to booking a holiday, a new poll has revealed.
Carried out by YouGov for accommodation website Celticcastles.com, the survey of more than 2,000 adults showed that 17 per cent of men and 14 per cent women most want to go on culture-filled breaks when they go away.
Increasing numbers of Britons are also turning to the internet when researching holidays, according to Roger Masterson, founder of the site.
"The internet puts a phenomenal range of holiday opportunities at people's fingertips - the days of being restricted to high-street package breaks are over," he remarked.
"People want more to show for their trips than a tan; it's about cultural experiences and personal satisfaction."
Last month, a report published by the Post Office revealed that
Warsaw is the cheapest city out of those in
Europe and
North America that it examined for a cultural weekend getaway.
The typical collective cost of heritage site tours, museum and gallery visits and music, opera and ballet performances, among other activities, over a weekend costs just over £75 in the Polish capital compared with £308 in
London, according to the figures.
